Doodlebug Hello Spring Birdhouses!

Hello Spring is such a darling cute and happy spring themed line.  I love all the adorable little birds and birdhouses, so when I was asked to make a home decor project with this collection I thought, what better than to make birdhouses!

These cute little houses are currently cheering up my living room, and my daughter just loves them.  She keeps wanting to play with them.

I found these unfinished birdhouses at Michaels.  The two on stands were $1.99, and the three on the bottom were $0.99!  Yes... I did say $0.99.  Awesome, huh?

Then, to cute-ify them, you'll need some acrylic paint, Doodlebug sugar coating glitter, a craft tray, and a sponge brush.

To do the glittered parts of the birdhouses, all you do is paint on the acrylic paint (don't worry about getting it everywhere, it's not going to matter) and choose a paint color that you want to show, because Doodlebug's glitter is transparent, so the paint shade will show through.  If you want a darker glittered area use a darker paint, a lighter glittered area use lighter paint.  I love that about Doodlebug's glitter.  You can kind of change it a bit to match your project.

Back to the painting... Just paint on the acrylic paint and then....

Right after you paint, like RIGHT when you put your brush down, while the paint's still wet, you're going to hold your item over the craft tray and dump glitter all over the wet paint.  Then just shake off the excess and put the remaining glitter back into the bottle (hence the beauty of the craft tray).
Sometimes glitter is full of static, so just to be safe, rub the inside of the tray with an embossing buddy before you start.  Or sometimes a dryer sheet works, too.

Then you'll embellish with paper!  To get the paper to match difficult areas, like the fronts of the birdhouses, you simply use a very thin printer paper or tissue paper and press it over the birdhouse, making imprints of the roofline and the holes and the pegs.  Then take the paper off and use it as a pattern to cut your real pieces from your scrapbook paper. (you'll want to have the paper pieces ready before you do the glitter, it'll be a mess making the patterns afterward).  Then after the glitter all you do is glue on the paper.

Use Doodlebug's Hello Spring stickers, die cuts, pearls and brads to embellish.

This cute little bee brad is from the Ladybug Garden line.

The Twinery & Imaginisce are Hoppin'!

The Twinery and Imaginisce are doing a week-long blog hop this week.
There are so many prizes, and so much inspiration, join us and hop along!
Here is my layout featuring the Sole Sisters collection and three colors of yummy Twinery twine.
I thought of a fun idea to "sew" with the twine using I-Rock templates.  Fun right?
You already have these great templates for creating designs for the I-Rock gems, and here I used the templates and a paper piercing tool to poke holes in my paper and use the pattern for stitching.
To get a deep hole (and not ruin my table) I put the layout on the carpet and poked all the way through.
Then when all your holes are ready, simply thread your twine onto a large head needle and stitch along the holes.
Here I used the bracket on the same template and stitched two rows using Maraschino twine.
The flower I freehanded with a Zig 2-Way Glue Pen and then laid the twine on the glue lines.
The daisy mimics the flowers on the paper and was done with Honeydew twine.
Here's a close up of the finished border design.  I used Blossom twine for this design.

Keep hoppin' along for prizes.
The Twinery is giving away the "I Dream in Twine" package
(retail $32).
Imaginisce is giving away the entire Makin' Waves collection pack (retail $37).
In order to win,
you must leave comments on each participating blog on the hop throughout the week and the deadline to comment is midnight (EST), Sunday, April 22. Winners will be announced on each company blog on Monday, April 23rd.
You arrived here from

Now hop on over to
(If you've yet to start at the beginning, you can go to The Twinery Blog or the Imaginisce Blog.)
I loved using The Twinery's beautiful twine for this project!

The I-Top Punches- For More Than Just Making Brads!

The I-Top punches are so great for when you're using the I-Top tool to make fun brads, badges, and other embellishments, but have you ever thought to make other shapes with these versatile punches?

Here I'll show you two other ways to use these punches on your projects!

Flowers!
I have a full tutorial on the Imaginisce Blog today showing you step by step how to create these beautiful blooms.
Have you ever thought to use these punches to make layered flowers for your cards and layouts?

Not only did I use the punch for the flowers, but of course I used it for the brads in the center of each flower.

Sun!
Don't you just love the Makin' Waves collection?  So happy and fun and bright?  I created a sun with the I-Top punches to add more summery fun to this card.
Don't forget to visit the link HERE to see the full flower tutorial, and for more fun projects all week long.

Thanks!

Big Top Release- Lifestyle Crafts/QuicKutz

QuicKutz is releasing their new Big Top dies today, and just in time for summer, they're a darling set of dies perfect for projects about the circus and the fair.  These would be great to do a whole themed party with.

I created some fun cards using these dies, as well as some of Lifestyle Crafts embossing folders and L Letterpress printing plate sets.

"Carousel" Card
Featuring the new "Carousel" die
The banner is from the Megaphone die.  The Splendor printing plate is one of my favorites.  In person, the yellow burst is deeply embossed into the thick cotton letterpress paper.  The "celebrate you" stamp is a retired one from Stampin' Up!

"Big Top Birthday" Card
Featuring the new "Animals" die
This card also features the Dainty and Classic embossing folders and the Nesting Frame 2 die in addition to the new Animals die.

"Hot Air Balloon" Card
Featuring the new "Hot Air Balloon" die
For this card I used the Splendor plates again, but I didn't cover the plate completely with teal ink, creating a more vintage look.

"Celebrate You" Card
Featuring the new "Dress-Up" die
For this card I used the banner again, as well as the Spooked Printing Plate Set and red ink. I heat embossed the sentiment on the banner using silver glitter embossing powder.

"Party Cupcake"
Featuring the new "Pennants" die
What a fun way to celebrate someone special!  The cupcake is wrapped with the Botanical Cupcake Liner die.

As always, you can get 20% off your purchase of these and any other Lifestyle Crafts products by entering coupon code "RHINESTONES" at checkout.  Visit their website HERE.

Sugar & Spice Release Week with Doodlebug Design

Good morning to you all!  Hope you had a great Easter weekend.  My husband took my boys to Moab for the Jeep Safari Weekend, so they weren't home to hang out with us girls until late Sunday afternoon, and then I worked Sunday night and got home just now to find out that my layout here is on the Doodlebug Blog this morning to kick off Sugar & Spice Week!  Yay for cute baby girl papers :)

So- we didn't have much of an Easter together, and we're celebrating more tonight to make up for it.  I'm a pediatric nurse so I spent my weekend taking care of beautiful little babies, which is just fine with me, and was actually a fun way to spend my Easter.  Can't get enough of snuggling babies.

I created this layout about my own beautiful little baby girl, who's not a baby any more :)
The top of the layout was created using Cute-Cuts die cuts, Boutique Buttons, Doodletwine, and an Expressions rub-on phrase.  I love the saying.
And isn't the clothesline just darling?  The little clothespins are from Stampin' Up! but I've also seen some similar from Pebbles, Inc.  The cute little clothes are Icons cardstock stickers, and the "baby girl" is from the same sticker sheet.
I added some of Doodlebug's mini pearls to the clothes for some extra decoration.  I love these pearls.  They're self adhesive and come in matching colors for each of the new collections.

To see the full line and more great projects by the design team, visit the Doodlebug Blog HERE all this week!

Vinyl with Brookie Craft

I recently did some design work for Brookie Craft, a vinyl and screenprinting company.
They asked me to create some projects for marketing, their blog, facebook, and print ads.  It was a fun opportunity, and their vinyl is top quality so it was a dream to work with.

I created lots of projects, but I'm not sure if I can share them just yet :)
This one, however, was added to their facebook page today, so I guess it's okay to share.
I made a car table for my neighbor's son's birthday.
We worked on this together for days.  It was definitely a two person job!
I used several Cricut cartridges for this project, including My Community, Locker Talk, Winter Woodland, and Pooh & Friends.  There may have been more, I can't remember.
I used my gypsy to weld roads from the My Community cartridge to get the dimensions and angles I needed for the table.

The table itself came from IKEA.

You'll see another of my vinyl projects soon in a print ad for Brookie Craft in the Northridge Publishing magazines (Cards, Scrapbook Trends, Bead Trends, Create:Idea Books, Cricut Magazine).

Hopefully I'll get to show you the rest of my projects on my blog soon.  Until then, seriously consider checking out Brookie Crafts' vinyl.  It's the highest quality I've used.  You'll love it (and I'm not being paid to say that :)

Celebrating Easter with Imaginisce- "Hippity Hop" Style!

Happy Monday morning to everyone!  Hope you had a great week.

I celebrated my 10 year wedding anniversary over the weekend!  My husband took me out of town and the kids played with grandma and grandpa. I got to eat at some amazing restaurants, get a massage, and eat WAY too much sugar! I think I'm having a chocolate hangover :)  I had a great time.

We're celebrating Easter on the Imaginisce Blog this week.  Take a look for lots of fun inspiration for cards, layouts, and other Easter-themed projects.

For my layout I used the darling Hippity Hop collection and made a cute page about an Easter when my kids were younger.  I love the colors and the die-cuts in this collection.

I also used some Core'dinations cardstock in teal, orange and purple, and the border punch is by EK Success.

Thanks for visiting!  And have a very "hoppy" Easter! :)
